Abstract:

Kardar, Parisi, and Zhang proposed in 1986 an equation which describes the motion of an interface for the case where the bulk dynamics of the two pure phases has no conservation law. The dynamics favors one of the phases and the interface is driven by local random attachments. We briefly report on recent experiments for a turbulent nematic liquid film (work of Takeuchi and Sano) and our own work on an exact solution of the KPZ equation for droplet geometry, which is in very good agrement with the experiment.
