Distributed computing approaches for large-scale data engineering and data science in cancer research

Sean Davis

National Institutes of Health

While there are as-of-yet relatively few truly BigData problems in biology (relative to other research and commercial domains), adoption of cloud-based infrastructure, platform, and software services is becoming commonplace. Cloud computing approaches offer scalable technologies for efficient, reproducible, reusable computational workflows. In addition, commercial cloud providers third-party vendors are offering data and analytics services that are designed for performance and reliability at scale. This talk will provide a few examples of how cloud technologies are being used for data science and data engineering with a focus on cancer genomics applications.
