Abstract:
Like the Ising model for phase transitions, the driven lattice gas was
introduced as a non-trivial, yet simple, testing ground for understanding
fundamental issues of statistical mechanics of non-equilibrium steady states.
In additions to many surprising properties displayed in bulk, the interface
between co-existing phases at low temperatures also offers considerable
challenges. Examples include anomalous height-height correlations and serious
coupling to bulk degrees of freedom. After presenting the driven lattice gas
and some of its singular bulk behavior, I will focus on the current status
of the interfacial properties.
