Congratulations to Thomas Rey and his wife Fred, on the birth of their son Camille Rey on Tuesday November 26th.
Professor Kayo Ide will speak on The Role of the Antarctic Polar Vortex and Rossby Wave Breaking on Large-Scale Stirring in the Lower Stratosphere at the Tenth Annual Symposium of the Burgers Program for Fluid Dynamics, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 4:35-5pm in the Kay Boardroom of the Kim Building.
Doron Levy, Mathematics and Center for Scientific Computation & Mathematical Modeling will give the Distinguished Scholar-Teacher (DST) Lecture The Mathematics of Cancer on November 7, 4:00 PM, 1410 Physics.
A meeting of CSCAMM faculty with AMSC students will be held at the Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling (CSCAMM) on Nov 1 from 10am to noon. The meeting will provide a platform for presentation of CSCAMM faculty research and Q&A with AMSC students. A follow-up lunch 12-1pm will be hosted by CSCAMM. Click here for a schedule of talks.
The Maryland Mathematical Modeling Contest (M3C) is a new intramural competition based on the international Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). M3C seeks to mimic the structure of the MCM, and M3C winners have the opportunity to compete in the MCM as well. More information can be found here .
CSCAMM hosted the 2013 Interdisciplinary Summer School: Data Assimilation in Geosciences from June 3-14. Video recording of all sessions and PDF's of the presentations can be found on the CSCAMM Tutorial Lectures page .

Congratulations to Dr. Sébastien Motsch who accepted an offer as an Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematical & Statistical Science in Arizona State University
Congratulations to Changhui Tan and his wife Wei Guo who got married February 2013 in Annapolis.
Congratulations to Professor Doron Levy who was awarded by the University as a 2013-2014 Distinguished Scholar-Teachers award for outstanding scholarly accomplishments.
CSCAMM welcomes Dr. Yongyong Cai from National University of Singapore, as a new KI-Net Post-Doctoral Research Associate with Prof. Tadmor. His post-doc is split between the Math department at UW Madison and CSCAMM at UMD.
The CSCAMM seminar room audio-visual system was upgraded over winter break. The new A/V system includes an easy-to-use Room Control system, identical to the system found in rooms campus wide. This system controls a new full HD projector and matching wide-format screen.
Our thanks to CSCAMM's IT Manager, Jeff Henrikson, who worked tirelessly on making this upgrade possible.
CSCAMM welcomes Dr. Roman Andreev from ETH, Zurich, as a new Post-Doctoral Research Associate with Prof. Tadmor.
