Critical Thresholds in Kinetic equations for Polymers

Professor Hailiang Liu

Indiana State University

Abstract:  In this talk we discuss critical thresholds in Fokker Planck type equations for polymers. For rigid rod-like molecule of polymers, we investigate the structure and classification of equilibrium solutions of a 3D nonlinear Doi-Onsager equation with the Maier-Saupe potential. It is shown that the number and structure of equilibrium solutions hinge on whether the intensity parameter crosses two critical values. We then discuss global orientation dynamics in terms of such critical intensity parameters. Finally we investigate critical thresholds on boundary conditions for a dumbbell model with FENEE potential.
